I had a welder buddy just stop in. I showed him some new coins, we had some tea and I bought a bunch of copper torch tips off him. He saves them from work and brings them to me. I have about 15 pounds of copper squiled away.
Anyone else buy up copper?

I am really tempted to get 100 rounds of the new Zombucks Saint coin at .99 cents each. I love the design. The problem with copper rounds is that they're so darn expensive compared to copper's market value. However, I think the Saint is gonna be a winner, whether copper or silver. In the end, per round, I'll be paying 15 cents for the copper and 84 cents for labor.

I have a 5 gallon bucket of stripped copper wire, but I don't go out looking for the stuff.

I wanted to buy up the silver zombucks but the shipping would kill me. I would have to order 20 of each to justify it.
The copper zombucks will be the winner because people like me will be trying to buy the whole set off you at $5 a piece. That is the exception I think, I wouldn't buy rounds of copper as "bullion".
Davec13, do you but silver/gold? Do you see copper as taking up too much room? If you could grab 10 pounds at $2 to sell a week later at $3 do you see that as too much labour moving it all? I have no plan to sell anytime soon, I just like to hoard it.

Honestly it's just a time thing for me. I work probably 100 hours a week keeping 2 restaurants 54 miles apart running. On top of working on our new banquet facility and starting my own little coin shop. My time is limited and valuable to me. For me that $10 isn't worth my time. I have space to store literally tons of copper but the return isn't enough to warrant doing it.
The 5 gallon bucket I have is more sentimental than anything, I took it from my grandfathers garage when he passed away. His generation were the original recyclers and he would strip little bit of wire, ball it up and toss it in the bucket. I remember helping him when I was younger and that was the one thing I wanted when he passed.

I have a bunch of 2" and 3" diameter pipe I bought of craigslist for scrap price or below. I will eventually make something out of them or just keep them for future projects. I also bought a 100' roll of copper lamp cord at a garage sale as a package deal where I basically got the wire for free. I spent $10 or $20 total, I cant remember which. I got the wire, a Wusthof Trident chefs knife, a tool belt and a Eastwing framing hammer, a huge stand on tool box and a bunch of other little things.

I don't buy copper rounds. I would just hold on to nickels before that. They have a true face value in US coin plus intrinsic value. The last true currently minted coin for circulation.

Copper rounds are not worth investing in - 1 oz round cost about $0.89 with 1 lb of copper being worth about $2.30; i.e. 1 oz has an intrinsic value of $0.15. They are nice to look at, but a bad investment - if that's what you buy them for. Also, copper is a 'base' not a 'precious' metal.

I buy one pounds bars. I keep one on my desk as a conversational piece. For the premuim I pay I can't imagine that I will ever make a profit on them. I just think their unique, that's all.
