So I'm lost here--- can any one explain? For $28,000.00 ok but that's for a F12 with non porous light brown surfaces. Coin 201427507287 looks clearly over graded. Coin has pit marks very dark and looks finely porous. Coin to me seems $11,000. tops so what's your take on this.

It is either one of two things.

1. The lighting brings out the faults,

2. Directly submitted by Haritage and got the family discount, which is annoying.

It looks like a lot of the marks are on the slab, not the coin. I think the reverse carried this one a bit ti f12. I think it is OK. And yes, over priced.

Would love to own one someday.

in my own non expertise of grading this type of coin, I would have said ,
Net VG-8 OR F-12 Details. Reverse is very nice.

It recently sold for $19k so $28,900 is high. Rare Coin Wholesalers uses ebay for advertising. Take a look at these auction images: http://www.stacksbowers.com/BrowseA...04&Lot=10022

The coin is clearly not F12, but I do agree with HA's assessment of EAC 8, or in my opinion just a tad lower (VG7).
Copper Quotes by Robinson values S-1 in VG8 Average condition at 25K.so yes, it is a lot of money, but that seems to be the approximate coins F.M.V. The auction pries realized for the coin reflect that.

Rev is VG10 details,The obverse is a G7 details. It sold for $20,000 at stacks. Ridiculous price he wants $28,000 for this low grader with ugly scratches and verdigris porous and barly a G7 details obverse. Of course I respect a S1 chain--but why did the grading company not see the problems--when its clear as daylight its Details only grade-----its my LOUD question !?

RCW sells quite a bit of coins on ebay, it's not just for advertising. Like a TON of other ebay sellers, they overprice and use the best offer option.

It's just the ebay version of a typical face to face negotiation. "How much you want for that?" "Uh, $XXXXX.XX." "I'll give you $XXXXX.XX" Etc.......

Bashing sellers like this for "overpricing" is kind of silly since they know exactly what they're doing, as do experienced ebay buyers.

F12?!

My word.

How about G6 obverse, VG10 reverse, details, net G7-G8.

This is the power of expensive coins from big auction houses and/or big sellers -- the ability to get TPG bumps.

Lack of pedigree before Heritage is somewhat surprising for this sort of coin.

Not withstanding the S-1 premium I must respectfully disagree with CQR and say this is closer to a $20k coin than a $28.9k coin;

Furthermore, who uses best offer on a $28.9k coin anyway? "Uh, can you sell it to me for $28,000?" If you can afford that coin, you can afford to hold out for a nicer example with a better pedigree.

It's all over ebay, all you have to do is look. Here's BINs over 25K, TONS of Best Offers, probably more have it then don't.

Wow. That's just crazy to me. I wonder what their sale conversion % is off best offers, and what kind of markup they are running.

VG8 obverse F-12 reserve. PCGS rarely makes these details coins even when truly they are, it has to be pretty bad.
