So I bought my first box ever! $500 of Halves! Waited a week until they arrived and when I finally got them I rushed home to open... EVERY SINGLE COIN IN THIS BOX WAS A 1996-D. Every Single One. So is this just bad luck? Should I try another bank or should the next one at least have some variety? I'm not exaggerating btw.. I have 1000 1996-d halves... So crushed lol. Any suggestions on how to approach the next box? Thanks!

I'd say get used to that. Myself having searched halves for over 35 years, have found they no longer produce consistent finds. Also, you have not searched nearly enough volume to produce an average. Report back after 10 boxes, or perhaps even 20. Good luck to you.

InDo420, you could always try to obtain as many of those boxes as possible in an attempt to corner the market on 96-Ds.

At least you should be able to get some high grade 96 D out it.

That is a first I ever heard of a whole boxes of halves being all the same thing. I think I would be crying for weeks, unless it was a box of all the same pre-1965.

Look through them carefully. PCGS price guide for a MS68 is $1050!! You never know if you can find a flawless example.

Ive heard of this phenomenon. I see the remnants of full boxes of 96p in my area, meaning BU 96p and 95p are well scattered in my region, and probably came from boxes just like yours. I heard some of these older boxes come out from the banks every now and then.

maybe just a bad year where the quality of all were bad, so finding a good one is the rarity. I can't say I have seem many 1990's that look in very good shape from boxes.
