This auction is for an 1865 Seated Liberty $ that is definitely a cast counterfeit ... the current high bidder is willing to offer $122 dollars for it, but if you review his feedback he/she has been willing to pay $1200 for a slabbed EF40 "cleaned", and $350 for a plugged $. Some time down the road this person will try to unload these items and may be surprised. Back to the auction

... the coin can easily be ID'ed as a counterfeit by the date. It looks like someone put it on with spaghetti. Most of the cast counterfeits in this series have the same type spaghetti date. The final marker is the slash through the 'L' of Liberty on the obverse shield. Here is a genuine 1865 Seated dollar. Compare the dates.

Electotypes are a different story. They can usually only be detected under 10x magnification and by weight. Here's an electotype from my collection.
