Found this tonight in a batch of wheats I been going threw. Nothing else seems to be effected but the date. No dbling on anything else I can see. Is it Mechanical Doubling?

It looks like Machine Doubling to me...note that the spine of the "2" is only partially doubled.

Would/Can you post a picture that shows the entire date?

Thanks,
Jim

ODD, I would say MD. As an adjunct, I have just finished going thru over 5100 1972s. The apparent doubling in the inside the the loop in the "2" is on the vast majority, so makes me think it must be master die doubling, or maybe a die break. At any rate, it is there on a lot of them.

Die deteriation would cause more of a mushy, washed appearance. The doubling is very distinct on this coin.

The reason I was guessing die deteriation was mainly because of the "2". The backside and the bottom right where the "doubling" isn't continous. But, as I have said time and time again....don't pay attention to me, I'm just the resident rookie.

Nice example and a nice image too...but definitely Machine Doubling with no premium value.

Machine doubling, and on the upper slant on the "2", looks like it took a hit. nice Photos.
