Poll Question
I have an opportunity to pick up some horse brasses. I have never seen any exo guys go after these but they seem to me to be a medal/badge. The two I can try to dicker a price on are from the silver jubilees of Queen Victoria and Elizabeth the second.

They have a whole area of collecting on their own, They wouldn't be needed to be included with exonumia even in the broadest sense of the word. There are more books on horse brass collecting then exonumia, They do come in the decorative designs, advertising, owners names and prizes for parades and fairs. They can be made out of bronze, brass silver and other materials.

If you don't intend to collect lots of them. I think that they ones you describe would be a sub set of medals. And with most of the corination items there are numerous ones that were made.

Are horse brasses that are made of different medals still called horse brasses?

@ Harmonica

unless its a Half Dime lol

@ Circus

Thanks, even though I own a couple horses, I have never actually seen horse brasses before. They were quite fun to look into. My question came to me while searching ebay. When I searched silver or bronze horse brass, nothing came up. So I thought I might of had the name wrong.

I can see myself starting a collection of these very soon

For a general overview to thr field "The History and Origin of Horse Brasses" by Reginald A. Brown. It is quit new and not dated. The National Horse Brass Society has a bibliomania page
