they would have more success on producing a half kilo version

Maybe that's next.

They have fully utilize the dies.....with the colorized versions, each coin will have 3.000 planned mintage, so next time (in 2017) it could be or
Antique Finish Big coins
Piedfort Big Coins (same diameter but twice thicker)
Glow in the Dark Big Coins etc.....just to bring the mintage of each coin to let's say 5K-6K

the most unusual idea with the big coins (for the RCM, while Perth or RAM already had it): 6 Big Coins (5oz each) inside of the Huge Coin locket.

I really REALLY wish they would create a $229.95 "2015 Special Edition Silver Proof Set (Gold-Plated)" made to look like the Big Coin Series.

Now that I would definitely pick up!!

That's going the other direction, the really really small big coins, we are giving them too many great ideas, remember last year, swimming beaver, smiling beaver, laughing beaver, Bob the beaver.

Take a look at the other forum:
The limited edition new bullion privy SML introduced, reverse proof.
Wild life series but now as privy symbols.

Looks good for it's price (milk spots will love this coin too).

Thanks for RFD member, who posted the picture.

I think what you predict will prove to become true. Many buyers look for low mintage as a means of sustaining future value however once RCM churns out all the different variations of possible finishes, the market once again is flooded. Seems what buyers see as a good thing, then RCM just can't resist to push it to the 9s.....

It's a valid argument - but if there is a market for say colours on big coins ... how do they resist ?

The mint needs to make a few 1 oz silver coins that have a mintage of 500 to 1000 and only cost around $100 , limit one coin per house hold , no dealers, yes they will sell out and not everyone will get one, so what, it will spark interest back in their coins again, do it on a monthly or bi-monthly release and anyone/house hold who got the previous coin can not buy the next release directly from the mint, then start over after a year with new coins released the same way. Or some other such system.

But too many cry babies that would put up a stink I suppose and ruin something like that.

True, but is there a market? Granted that's an unknown, but if there isn't then future sets sold at a steep discount always brings down the price of previous but similar sets.

Would the existing owners of the original big 5 oz sets - mintage 1,500? - be interested in purchasing future variations of the exact same set they already own? If not then the market becomes even smaller. And when most people buy something they don't feel compelled to own one in each colour.

Thinking about that, this is one of the many reasons I'm satisfied with collecting mostly old coin - I know exactly what's already been issued with a rough idea of associated costs of what I plan to add to my existing collection. I don't have to play any guessing games about what might be minted in the future at unknown prices and what's more attractive than what I already have spent money on.

Yes, for the Mint there is a market for these latest Big Coins. It's called Steven Bromberg. He'll be buying a large percentage of the coins so the Mint has nothing to lose in producing them.

The Mint cares nothing about the hobby or the future value of collectibles. They care about maximizing sales in 2015. Next year, they will care about maximizing sales in 2016. It's just a fact of life in most if not all performance based corporations. More sales, more targets met, more bonuses, career advancement and salary increases for management. And don't forget, the Mint is a highly political organization. The recent change in the federal government likely means changes are coming to the Mint executive too.

The GEOMETRY IN ART coin (Loon) looks cool.

This fits in my Animal / art theme, so I will follow it.
Do not see the reason to spend CAD 100 for 7.500 mintage coin. Thanks for smart people here...

Indeed there is market - especially the tv market....they are likely to sell out quickly once on the air - they are easily recognizable designs with a splash of paint or colouring - sure to be popular with the tv crowd...

Just got the Catalog. I kinda like the wonders of the universe series but wish the mintage would be lower. The fractional Wolf series look interesting at $199.95 with the mintage of 7500 and wooden box. I am not too keen on the Common Loon. The most ridiculous money grab is the 2015 Special Uncirculated set which consists of Sir John A. MacDonald Toonie, the 50th anniversary of the Canadian Flag (25c), and the 100th anniversary of the flanders fields ($2 and 25c). Total face value of $5 but selling it as "must have" set for $25.95. The sad part is all of these uncirculated coins are previously released in various coin pack. There's no new uncirculated coin here. The only thing new is the packing them together in a different paper holder.

The Mint's marketing people thought, that the customers will buy everything, hence we see recombined circulation packs for too high price, and the endless fractional sets, where all coins have same design (it traditionally good for Maple Leaf, but not for the others).
(Wooden box will be attractive, if it for 4 coins only and you have Arctic Fox / Canada Lynx set in broken or too "used" case).
