I am a sucker for large traditional design coins like the first series, I would have preferred a simple proof finish but the gold tinting was tastefully done. If I had known there was a coloured series planned, I would not have purchased the original set, kind of feel cheated.

are you about the Big Coins, John?
So how the coloured series related to you preference of the simple proof? The gilded coins were maximum close to the original design.
But if the simple proof will be issued year later - oh yes, whoever purchased gilded and coloured - will feel cheated.

Can handle the original big coin series, but feel really turn off by this cheap coloured knockoff series, 3600.00 I feel it will devalue the first set You buy a Rolex for 5000.00 and two months sell a colour version for 3000.00, it's just pure greed, us collectors are smarter than this I hope.

yes, agree

As I expressed earlier, I think since the coins commissioned, the commissioner has to order amount sufficient to cover the expenses. The mintage of 1500 is small relatively, so the second series (with basically same coins) comes out.

I am sure this coloured set was commissioned too, he would have made a better choice of just creating a 10 oz. version or a limited gold version. Oh well we will see if it will sell out in the next few days.

They will sell out...lots of lovers of coloured coins out there...
And these depictions will appeal to many...
Don't see though how gold enhancement is devalued...just becuz of this new version...
Gold enhancements version was well done!!

It certainly will if the colour set tanks, just like too many fractional sets, it's almost like increasing the mintage as they killed the glass bugs, anything that was popular at one point.

Having a second set of the Big Coins makes the first one not as unique. Remember they are using the same dies, so there are in fact now 3000 of them: 1500 Gold Plated and 1500 Coloured.

Gold plated set likely to maintain value or slightly increase as it's the first series and its still only 1500 mintage regardless of other versions coloured or otherwise - matter of one's preference...significant interest for both styles I would think some will want both versions -
BTW - there seems to be a growing demand of anything 5 oz - so the sky is the limit in terms of what may be produced in 5 oz - gold plated / coloured etc...

What is the source of the statement about the RCM using the same dies for the new set?

I know someone previously suggested it here on CCF, but I haven't seen any verifiable reference. Can you provide?

Personally, I don't think there will be much increase in price. Keep in mind not many people can afford these 5oz at the current price to complete the whole set. in fact, some of the coins were not sold out

The Calgary Stampede 5 oz. one of the early ones you can get for much under issue, all except maybe the last penny is holding value. As for the dies, it looks like the same design and since the same person commissioned both sets it's a pretty good assumption it's the same die and the big savings of 30.00 a coin. I have been told that the company commissioning a coin is allowed up to half mintage but they are paying the upfront production costs dies, designs, etc.

One set is 2015 and the other is 2016. Same dies with different dates?

The date is on the reverse of five of coins. Only the toonie has the date on the obverse.
