See: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Coalburn-Ho...t_335wt_1153Thoughts? I've actually seen this particular motif before. Here's a somewhat more elaborate and expertly executed example (just a photo, mind you, not a coin I own, so I don't know who the artist is for this one): Colligo ergo sum

The one you linked is ok. I don't know if I could justify the price being asked. Now if the one you posted the picture of was for sale at that price It would be mine right now.

that it is interesting, but I like the "skull" ike someone posted last week better. It was just simple and different. A lot of work went into this one but I wouldn't want one. But I may pick up one of those Ikes someday....

Interesting, but I wonder how much of the metal is lost in the engraving process?

I like it but it kinda looks like a rejected Provident pattern for the zombuck. At long beach a dealer had a morgan hobo that was a carved portrait of "the dude" from the big lebowski. I wanted it but not at a $300 price tag

Quote: Interesting, but I wonder how much of the metal is lost in the engraving process? Perhaps on the order of a gram, maybe even a bit more than that? In any case, enough that if you were making them in any quantity, you'd be foolish to not do the work over a catch tray. But the loss of bullion value for the finished product wouldn't project to figure much into its pricing.

A couple more.... The 1923 here is identified as being the work of one John Hughey. I also see Mogans that have been given this same treatment.

Reminds me of Pirates of the Caribbean. The ride, not the movies. "Dead men tell no tales."
By the way, they recently refreshed the one at WDW. If you sit in the front row, you will get wet.
