I was asking about half dollar rolls at my local bank the other day and the teller was saying that they don't get rolls anymore over the counter because most of the half dollars that come in come through their coinstar style counting machine. She did say that there was a collector who occasionally would come in and buy the bags of halves from the machines and she said she thought they were $1000 in a bag.

My question is whether these machines are the same as the coinstar machines or not. From what I understand don't coinstar machines kick the silver back out? I assume this guy is having some luck if he keeps buying the bags on a regular basis but I just wondered if it would be worth it to get on some sort of list to get some of these bags when they fill up.
Rest in Peace

Run a 40%'er through the machine to test it. If it swallows it, you are out the melt value ($2.37) minus 50c.

At least you'll know the status of the counter, and maybe you can buy the bag!

The machine at my bank recently broke and they are not replacing it but I got a decent amount of silver from the bags. This machine took $1000 to fill a bag and it also took about 6 months normally for it to fill.

So most of you that buy the bags find silver? Did you just ask to speak to the bank manager to buy the bag from the bank?

Not sure about the rest, but I almost always deal with the person in charge, in this case the vault teller.
