i just picked up four dateless Buffalos. (2) are 1913 and one each 1913D and 1913S. should I recover the dates with nic a date or leave them as is. thanks

No, because 1913 was the only type 1, then it is obviously type one, and nicadating would be damage.

I agree. I found a dateless D Buffalo last night and pickled it because it wasn't a Type 1. Ended up being a 1913 D Type 2.

I wouldn't recommend buying dateless Buffalo nickels at all. The lack of a date significantly limits the appeal of the nickel, in my opinion. Dated Type 1 Buffalo nickels with any mint mark are affordable on almost any budget with a little patience and saving. As your collection progresses, the dateless nickels will likely nag at you, and you'll want to upgrade and replace them.

I think that's good advice. I pickle the dateless Buffalo I find because I have a pickled nickel collection going. And the only dateless Buffalo in my main album is the Type 1 (holding a spot for the time being). And it might be a D or S...only pickling will reveal its identity at this stage.

Afford the best coin you can for the budget you have. Good luck on the collection Chip!
