I just stumbled on a site (I don't think that I am allowed to post the URL). It makes this claim:

Quote:
The 1989 Lincoln Penny offers the masterful combination of bullion investment and numismatist appeal. A great many investment experts consider precious metals a wise purchase for your investment portfolio. A 1989 Lincoln Penny provides you with a safe and cost-effective way to accumulate precious metals to your collection while providing a potential hedge against inflation.

Caveat Emptor!

More like a way to get scammed with base metals.

They had the same description for a 1989 Canadian quarter. It must just be a generic description. Misleading nonetheless.

NO WAY!! Now that I know that they are precious metal, I am hanging on to mine...heading to the bank vault first thing in the am!

Lol. Yesterday I was shocked to receive an unblemished perfect red 1988 cent in my change. I set it aside but not as a bullion investment.

I found similar just now...a 1969! Amazing what is still around isn't it? However, that does not happen very often for me!

IIRC, nice 1969 cents are actually more common than nice 1988 cents; the later ones tend to tarnish very easily.

Nice 1983 cents, however, are much less common than either.
