When you find a coin like this, ask yourself, does the coin show obvious signs of mutilation like scratch marks or bends, does it have marks where the metal has been smeared by force, is it smashed to the point that it isn't perfectly round anymore, and is this something that would have happened during the minting process. Learn how coins are made, learn the whole process so that when you see a problem with a coin, you can run through that process in your head and know whether or not it could have happened at the mint or most likely happened on it's journey through circulation.

Very good advice! Sad thing is...Thought I had. Have been reading, researching, saving, sorting, separating, searching through my coins/change for 3 years now. Even go to the point where if my total at a store is say $12.01....I give $13. Just so I can look through the change. My hub and in laws do the same and bring it to me to search. Have totaled maybe $500 on my coins I've sold on ebay but majority of sales were lots.....like my Indian head lot a couple years back. Most I've made on one coin was $25 I think. Maybe my problem is that I am a seller and not a collector so possibly lack of passion. I typically pick things up pretty fast but this is a whole different ballpark. Have so much respect for you guys!

My advise would be to visit the error forums often and you will learn quicker than you think. It worked for me.
