Looks more like split plating.

john I dont think its a hit the chip or extra material is too big to be part of G

It did receive contact with another coin. Note how the "G" is distorted.

Split plating usually shows on the outside edges of devices towards the rim. This coin shows it was from the inside direction of the device. Not machine damage as the "F" would also be affected.

I agree with John1. If a fender on a car can be damaged, does it increase it's value after it happens? Just an injury to a coin. spendable.

Also note the right base tip has the same mark from the damage from coin contact?
