Hi,

does anyone know more detail about this coin.
It is made of bronze and about 13mm size.

Seems to be from greek period.

Thanks

The helmet looks Corinthian to me. Here is a bronze from Kallatis, Thrace (c 200BC) that looks similar to me:

The obverse of this reference coin is Athena wearing a Corinthian helmet.

Since Herakles was a prominent figure on the coinage of Kallatis, I'm going to guess that the reverse of your coin pictures his encounter with the Nemean lion. If so, that would also point to Kallatis as the point of origin.

I don't think this is the Nemean Lion, but rather a centaur or maybe an ichthyocentaur:

- The face is pointed away from the tail, not toward it.
- Hercules strangled the Nemean lion, but the figure is holding a spear or lance.
- Front legs seem to belong to the torso, but point forward at nearly 45 degree angle
- Tail forks off into two parts, or perhaps a fin?

That said, I couldnt find a good match online.

Yes, good eye! Now that you point it out I can see it. The Kallatis idea wasn't getting anywhere, and certainly did not have anything serpentine. And I did not find any images of Hercules with the Nemean lion that did not have them tightly engaged in battle.

Bob's link clinches it for me. Can anyone make out any of the lettering to see if it lines up for a place name?
