Trying to grade this coin and have hit a wall. I'm thinking MS65 red. That tiny spot on the reverse at the bottom right of the staircase is messing me up. Did I grade it correctly, or would that spot drop it down to a MS64? Or am I way off altogether?

On the reverse, the 6th column from the left ( the right side of Lincoln ),on the top portion of the memorial there is a vertical line. That line might hold it back !

Common date, based on what I see I'd call it AU but TPG's would probably call it 62-63.

I am aware that the coin is common. I'm not looking to submit it. I'm just trying to get some practice with grading. I'm using a photo comparison site as reference. For some reason this site won't allow me to post a link to the page I am referencing. I'm not seeing as to why it would get the AU grade, BadThad. Can you explain why that grade?

Probably because of the luster breaks and there is a bit of rubbing on Lincolns hair.

Thanks, SSKid. It's tough to learn from others when no explanation is given.

For the most part, if you ask for an explanation, you will get thorough one.

The coin has been lightly circulated. Hard to tell in the obverse picture because it's oddly angled. I see rub on the cheek, jaw and the rims are a little beat-up for an MS coin. On the reverse, the cornice and steps show wear. Finally, I've seen my share of these, the spotting is not typically what you see from the mint - indicates circulation.
