I picked up this last week in the junk bin for $1.50... I'm starting to pay more attention to grading, would this be G4? Is the mark on the reverse (almost looks counter stamp) any sort of variety or just damage?

Easily a G4 and closer to VG8. Any 1926-S is a great pick up at around melt. I don't know of any varieties at this date. nlp

Technical G6, gets a details for that damage on the reverse.

Still worth picking from junk.

VG details. I've found three of them in my LCS's junk bin of Mercury dimes for $1.30 apiece this year, lol.

I once picked two 1926-S Mercury dimes out of a junk silver bin at a local pawn shop. Both were in similar condition to the one you found.
