The description of the item is clear and accurate. But the picture is of a gold bar stating 99.99% pure gold 1 ounce. Is this a counterfeit Perth Mint 1 ounce gold bar? Would clearly be illegal if it was a gold US coin, but since it is a bar?

In a couple places, the seller indicates it is not magnetic. A selling point only if you intend to use it to deceive someone, I would think. That first auction ended over 1k, no money to be made reselling it as solid gold!

Yes, don't try this at home. Try it in China.

Bidiots at their finest. If they are illiterate, then they should not use ebay. I have no pity for them.

All you had to do to figure out that these were fake was to read the listing.

Although I don't like that the sellers are knowingly selling fakes, I agree- anyone stupid enough to buy these deserves it.

I wonder if they also have the assay card. I encountered a fake a couple of months ago, Perth Mint with assay card and a half-gram overweight, from a known scoundrel. These are in the market now here so be careful and always test your buys, even if you have to destroy it, because gold is gold, don't get attached to the shiny!

Just made a rough calculation of how much gold is consumed, on a 1 troy oz clad bar.
If it is pure copper; 100mil of 24k Au plating is about $5 in gold material.

Parklane64, what is wrong with that listing for 1 pennyweight of gold shot? that seems to be a completely honest listing. the price might be a tad high but not as high as I've seen sellers ask.

Hmmm, I live in China. Maybe I should look into getting in on this. You can buy anything here. ;)
