I purchased an 8TF that from the wing feathers and other markings is a VAM-17, although on this coin the A-M-E-R letters are strongly doubled at the top, which I have not seen on other photos of a VAM-17. Unfortunately I am not able to take a photo that is better than this one from the seller. Does anyone have any recommendations on this one? Thanks --Rick

My guess would be Machine Doubling as none of the VAMs using this die mention doubling.

Thanks Dave, I do not yet have any experience with Machine Doubling; does this tend to produce a one-off coin, or several of them? I will try to take a better photo of this coin. --Rick

Many/ possibly the majority of the 78 series is load with doubling, and in some cases these are not the prominent features which it attributes it to the VAM 17 or any other given VAM, though many have it listed many don't tell you every thing that is doubled ect... often times in the discussion forums things like that may be mentioned.. but its the main points within the listing which determine the pick up points that lead you to a determination of a general VAM unless there are die state progressions which have more points of interest indicating VAM a/b/c ect.. Thanks aladinslamp (I have been offline for quite awhile once again.) It seems that none of the VAM-17 photos at Coinfacts have this doubling, but this VAM-17 that I recently saw at Heritage did.

That's quite an incredible coin; I see that it's in a holder! Would you mind letting us know the grade?
