1909 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle I't s in a poor condition: we can see the year, the words "Liberty", "in god we trust", basic outlines, the edge's "e pluribus unum" is perfect.

What does it weigh in grams and what is the diameter in millimeters? The pictures don't help much as the coin is so heavily damaged and/or worn. More data and/or an in-hand review is needed to confirm anything.

I have seen coins in better condition than that going for melt value, so I would just weigh it and calculate the gold value.

Wow, never seen on of these THAT heavily worn. Wish it could tell its stories! As they are far from rare, I'd imagine melt is the majority of offers.

Poor Details.... Melt, or just over that to the right person, IMHO

It is impossible to determine authenticity since the "coin" has been mangled so badly. The most important question is whether or not it is actually gold. No one will buy that thing without using a gold testing kit on it so that should be the first place to start when seeking a value. A genuine US gold coin will be composed of 90% gold(21.6kt) with a balance of copper.

Any LCS will test it and (assuming it's okay) give you bullion price less a small commission on the spot, so to speak. All in all, the coin seems more than a little odd.

Concur with the others ... this 'coin' is impossible to judge based on the photos and damage. Best bet is to make sure it is actually gold ... then melt value is what you have. to the CCF. David

Privet!
As the other have said, very damaged and only worth melt. Although I think it's cool.
