These are all four of the last banknotes issued by Rhodesia before Robert Mugabe assumed control and renamed the place "Zimbabwe". (Unfortunately for Zimbabweans of all races, he is still in power today.) As a symbol of compromise between the country's ruling white minority and its overwhelming black majority, the watermark depicting Cecil Rhodes has been replaced with an image of the less controversial Zimbabwe Bird artifact. At the time, the Rhodesian dollar was one of the world's strongest currencies, pegged at USD$1.50 (worth $4.92 in today's dollars).
I have been given the opportunity to image these notes, but they're not mine. They are really outstanding and would fit well with my other ex-British African stuff, but I am not good at spending large amounts of money, so I'm asking for help. How much would you pay for these four notes?
Let me say I am not an expert but just from a brief look on ebay I would say the cheapest you could expect to get a set in AU condition buying then individually would be about £15 each (£60 the 4 plus postage) and you can buy a set of 4 notes completely UNC for £125. So I would be valuing them in between those values and offering about £80.
It isn't a precise method of valuing stuff since anybody can ask anything they want on ebay, but if it is something you have to own looking at what else is available is a useful tool to work out what you want to pay.
