Well it had to happen at some point.

""There is a surplus of coins around the world at this point, and Canadian circulation demand is down as well."

I am tempted to think that the steam has gone out of new collector coin mint products.

Perhaps the premiums are too high, and the extra production costs and profits cannot be recovered in the pricing of new mint product.

The steam has gone out of some areas of the rare coin market in Australia as well.

If the RCM can not profit from the BOC in making Canada's circulating currency, which according to one member is 18% of the last reported quarter, one would think cost cutting had to start some where.

The RCM does a lot of contract work for smaller nations that do not have their own minting facilities, right? I wonder if they lost a large contract or something?

sel_69l: that is disheartening to hear about the Australian market. Is it depressed over the whole spectrum (pre-decimal to decimal to modern granny bait) or is the lack of interest limited to one or a few of those areas only?

I ask because I have a really nice 1915-H half penny in PCGS AU55 that I am thinking about selling, but it is a hard coin to find a realistic market value for. I'd hate to sell it now, if, by waiting a while I could realize a substantial increase in value.

Feel free to PM me so we don't hijack northerncoins thread any further!
