Hi there. I;m new to this forum.

I have a 100 dollar bill error note which I want to share with you guys.

This 100 dollar bill was actually acquired about 20 years ago. At that time I tried to deposit money into my bank account in Vietnam. The clerk picked out this note and refused to accept it. She said it was not a fake but bank policy would not accept any error note. I noticed that the 100 dollar bill was in circulation for quite a while and surprisingly no one noticed it before. I since kept it into my collection.

Anyone has any idea how much is it worth?

Sorry, but I think this is not a genuine error. The seals are printed at the same time as the serials, and they cannot be offset from each other. There does seem to be some remnant of black ink where the Fed seal should be, and the ink on the "misaligned" seal seems smudged and breaking up toward the bottom. Second opinions would be appreciated though.

This is in fact a legitimate error.

Here is an example similar to your note -- similar condition and similar position of the black overprint:

It sold for $201.00 in 2001 and the cataloger mentioned this error to be very scarce in this domination. I would imagine it's worth substantially more now.

While the treasury seal and fed seal are part of the third printing they are not applied at the same time. This error is possible. Although fakes exist they usually forget to remove the fed numbers.

The 3rd printing step is a two color (black and green) process.

The sheet was shifted between the first color step and the second color step. Could have been due to a mechanical slip up (when the sheet was in-process) or due to a manual shut down and restart by the press operator and the sheet got out of position.

Most likely, there were 31 other notes on this sheet that have this same error (to varying degrees) and were probably released into circulation....UNLESS they were tagged by an inspector and subsequently destroyed.

Kool error.... Worth a couple of hundred bucks to the right collector. Too bad it isn't "unc"!
