Nice find

I like finding those late 70's or 80's rpm too..some are quite tricky

The RPM is on the upper loop of the mint mark.

I'm not seeing that on your coin. The split on the lower serif is common for that year because of punch damage.

While location is important for a die match, the having the spread of the RPM is more important.

Thanks coop - I saw the split upper serif also with location and did not notice the actual shape being different.

I have been fooled at least 4 times by this damaged punch! My senior memory has trouble!

I thought it would be interesting to compare the marks - assuming they were all made with the same punch.

Any comments?

What I am wondering about the previous comparison photo: Are there at least 2 different damaged punches? The 1st and 3rd appear to have a curved left portion of the upright to the D. The 2nd and 4th have what appears to be a straight left portion. Or does the apparent difference simply result from the way the punch is struck?

It maybe a progression of the damaged punch getting worse with use. You can see these on all denominations for this year of the Denver mint coins.
