this is part of an inherited collection. So far, all the ancient coins have proven to be legitimate with no fakes, but this one seems a bit shiny to me?

The holder says Venice 1382-1400, Antonio Ventero (possibly Veniero) AR Grosso, Tyoe II, + over Dofe's Cap

Any thoughts would be appreciated

I believe it's actually Antonio "Venier," not Ventero.
Obv (your bottom pic): ANTO . VENERIO-. S . M . VENETI.
St. Mark and the Doge standing facing, holding pendant flag between them, D / V / X in center field
Rev: Christ, nimbate, enthroned facing, holding book of Gospels
* | P across fields

I think it looks okay, although over cleaned.

Excellent example of the Venetian grosso! The first grosso was made in 1192 AD if I recall correctly and maintained the same symbolism for 3 or 4 hundred years. The prices of grossos has steadily increased and a really nice example like yours will sell for over 200$ easily.

One of the better (and maybe only) reference books on the Venetian grosso is a hardcover book by Paolucci. More specifically:
Paolucci, R. Le Monete Dei Dogi Di Venezia - The Coinage of the Doges of Venice, 2nd Edition. (Padova, 2001).

Great coin, thanks for sharing!
