As I said, I'm cutting back and/or stopping counterfeit coin threads, but this here is questionable. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1900-1-Morg...AOSwo6lWOX8GThe fields are virtually clean on the obverse and bit on the reverse. It just doesn't look right to me. Regardless, the seller is a great honest guy, and I've gotten some great stuff from him.

I'm with ya drew. The surfaces are amazing. Almost too good but the mushiness and I feel like I'm looking at a real morgan in a fun house mirror like the devices are enlarged or something.
Get a pic of it for the thread will ya

Yeah, it's a CC (cast counterfeit)
Upload some photos so everyone can see pictures after the auction gets nuked.

Can I ask why you would stop the CC threads. I have learned plenty.

Definite counterfeit, but struck, not cast. Diagnostics: - mushy obverse details; they look very rounded - the lifeless appearance - the loss of detail on the eagle's wings near the body. Looks like these:

I'm by no means a Morgan expert ,but there's something fishy with that coin. I also have to agree with Drew.

Champco - users have been annoyed by the consistent threads being posted. I decided to stop them all together. This is the kind of discussion I (personally) feel is needed on a thread about counterfeits. It gives details on why a coin is counterfeit with user discussion. It allows people who don't know too much about counterfeits to take a look at this thread, and learn why the coin pictured is indeed fake. Just my Two Cents, I'm not going to go into anymore detail, as then it may sound like I'm pointing fingers.

CHD, have you considered starting one large running thread on counterfeit coins? It's certainly interesting subject matter, and one big thread would keep the forum from being cluttered by countless counterfeit coin threads. I will admit I get a bit fatigued on the issue when I open this forum and 75% of the threads are about counterfeit coins. One big catchall thread for this would allow you to continue to post all of these examples without clogging up the board.

CoinHuntingDrew,
I personally like the information that you provide about counterfeit coins. The counterfeit information on this board has helped in my collecting. I hope that you continue to post counterfeit coins.

Bobby addressed this suggestion and explained why one big thread would NOT be beneficial to the forum or visitors. You can read his reply here https://goccf.com/t/244151&whichpage=2

I would have had NO idea that is coin was a counterfeit and with over 3300 positive feedback selling coins, I would have trusted buying from this seller 100%. Purchasing coins online is getting to be REALLY scary.
