Your thoughts on this would be appreciated, some kind of corrosion maybe?

'Environmental Damage' - a collective term which covers a multitude of sins.

Hard to tell because of the picture.

I don't believe the coin is orange/red in colour, but I do think it has environmental damage (staining and/or corrosion).

I think it depends on the setting of your monitor, on one monitor (movie mode) it is heavy with red/orange. On the monitor that is setup for documents, there is only a few reddish spots.

In hand the coin is dark, light grey and some reddish spots. I never noticed the difference in monitors until I moved the window over. It is interesting to see how much of difference makes. Photo was taken with a 40mm Micro lens, no filter. Lighting is a single halogen bulb, diffused through through plastic

Impossible for me to grade as the face shows black with my old eyes..and the surrounding red just makes it that much more difficult. .

....but with maybe a touch of wear on the high spots and beard..

...and thanks for clarifying the colour details for us..

VF 30, environmental damage.

Color balance is definitely a bit off there. Might want to play with the settings on your camera. The best is to take a photo of a white sheet of paper and have that as your custom white balance template.
