After lots of years using different detectors I have separated the coin finds. Man these things are ugly. Couple pounds worth. Coin sorter is gonna choke.

You could try rolling the coins, but they're probably so crusty that the rolls would be a few coins short.

Not for collectible coins, but dirty clad coins clean up real nice in a bowl of CLR or toilet bowl cleaner.

I've been using a cheap kid's $20 rock tumbler. Half an hour tumble with a drop of soap, half cup of water and aquarium gravel. Mix dimes and quarters, tumble copper separately. They don't come out shiny but so what, very clean. I run 'em through the coin counter, free at my CU. The tellers refuse rolled coin or Canadian though.

Quote: The tellers refuse rolled coin or Canadian though. I get why they wouldn't take Canadian (no offence to you Canadian members) but why rolls? Maybe because someone could just leave each roll 1 coin short and make a profit?

The tellers refuse rolls because the CU has an expensive coin counter to do that task.

Okay. They want to put it to good use, I guess.

My local keybank accepts rolled coins and Canadian coins too. Do you have a keybank near you?

Hi Nickbxtr, and welcome. Not sure if your reply was directed at me or not, but I refuse to use banks. Credit Unions all the way for me.

Yeah I don't blame you. Credit unions have better rates and less fees but banks tend to accept "mutilated" dug coins and foreign currency because they just ship it out.

I've used a rock tumbler for about 20 years. Soap, sand and water and a drying screen. They clean up really well except for the extremely messed up Zincolns. You may find a few Wheats in the cleaned up cents. If you take them to the Coinstar use the gift card option and you don't have to pay the 10%

Stopped at my mother's bank, got 10 rolls of pennies, I have 170 pennies that I have found. So remove 10 pennies from each roll replace with 10 of my finds. Every 4 rolls I have another roll to add 10 too. When finished I had 14 rolls. Went to my main bank and traded for cash. Webekin
