Here are the images of the bimetallic lowball. Wonder what circulation it has seen in 16-17 years? If only coins could talk.

Here's my (previously posted) 1996, for comparison:

Post-Your-Lowball-Coins! Post-Your-Lowball-Coins!

I think there's a little more wear on my coin, which seems about proportionate (it must have seen about 19-21 years of circulation before ending up at Taganka where I bought it).

How do you know it's 2003, for the record? I don't see a date anywhere.

It's hard to see in the scan, but in person you can see the top of a 3 (this design was introduced in 2003)

Nice coin! I've got quite a few of these lowball Bun head pennies being held hostage. They're probably the most common lowballs, next to those Napoleon III 5 and 10 centimes coins and those 1860s Italian 5 and 10 centimes coins.

Victorian bun pennies have a nice bonus (compared to other types commonly found well circulated) in that the dates are recessed, so can often be read even when almost nothing else is legible.

(In comparison, on the Napoleon III coins, the date and/or the mintmark is often worn away, because they aren't quite as easily preserved - the mintmark in particular.
Perhaps the best case in terms of date preservation is the late 19th century Russian 5 kopek coins [and to an extent also their lower-denomination cousins], where the date is incuse; I've seen those worn about smooth with little but the date visible. They didn't get to circulate anywhere near as long as the Victorian pennies, though.)

I've been on-and-off trying to make a lowball date set of those pennies, though I'm still missing the rarest dates and a few late dates; the current progress is here (missing 1869, 1878, 1883, 1888, 1892, and 1893, plus a few of the date-mint combinations).

[EDIT: fixed weird link problem]

1757, surely? That type wasn't even made yet in 1755.
