IIRC, the example in my lowball set has about the same level of wear. I've seen more worn 1860s pennies, but I don't recall any being 1861 specifically.

I " inherited" this lowball V nickel in a pile of cheap coins   Not only nasty but split conditiom Liberty is Fair pushing Agood The V side is barely Poor. And apparently 1888 is a scarce date?
