I am a Canadian, so I am relatively new to collecting American currency, and with the disappearance of our penny from circulation, I decided that I would try to collect pennies in warman books (very similar to whitman);

I have three books;
1) 1909-1958
2) 1959-2009
3) 1065-2015

I bought a whitman book for my nephew (I started him on a Canadian penny book the year before it was announced that our penny was going to be phased out), and I noticed the whitman book has spots for seven 1982 pennies.
I also purchased on my last state-side road trip a whitman guide;
It shows the large and small date, and with the side by side pictures you can clearly see the difference, but it doesn't offer any assistance in identifying in the wild...

Can anyone offer me assistance in clearly identifying large from small date 1982 pennies?

Thanks!!

This page is dedicated to the 1982 cent varieties

This page helps with large and small dates from other years

You will need a scale that weighs in grams.

Here is what is out there for business strike cents:

Small date-large date ID:

The next thing is to weight them to see if they are copper or zinc to get all 7.

The "WE" looks to be a clear give away feature to ID them....

I can tell the difference by looking at the 82. Get several of them until you get one that has a smaller or larger 82 than the ones you have. Then you can tell which is which. Then the quickest way for me to determine the composition of Lincoln cents without a scale is to flip the coin in the air. Copper cents have a high pitched ring to them when you flip them while zinc cents have a dull sound.
