I finally got some good pics of this coin. I just read some of the recent posts and comments about greasers. Is that what this is?

Looks like it was Struck Through Grease to me. Edit: No, on second thought it might be a weak strike. We may hear from an expert.

It is interesting that the obverse and reverse are both affected in the same area. What does the edge look like?
It could be a tapered planchet error.
I didn't notice that when I posted the first time.

OK, here are some close-ups of the area involved and the edge. The edge does taper and get thinner where the strike appears weak. Also, the weight is 2.8 grams. (My scale only registers to a tenth of a gram.)
