We're going to test this in the US Category first, then we'll expand if it works well.

We now have a new forum to report US counterfeits.

Please read the instructions carefully...

Report suspected ebay counterfeits here. Please start every topic with the word Counterfeit and be very specific with the type of coin and do not use abbreviations or acronyms. For example: Counterfeit 1921 D Mercury Dime. Please grab a picture/pictures and upload it here. If the listing has been taken down already, try this tool to get the picture from the item number. Once reported and at least 24-48 hours old, the topic will be locked and moved to the correct forum.

Thanks for this Bobby-
Experimented with "this tool" on a listing that had been taken down.
Brought up the picture with no problem.
Hope this works well so it can be expanded to Canadian Coins.
Rest in Peace

Does it have to be on ebay, or could I pull images from other forbidden sites and start threads on those counterfeits? Or should I post in a normal forum first?

What I was thinking is post a counterfeit I own once every day/week and give the diagnostics and what to look for as educational posts.

Thanks to Bobby and all.

Just thinking out loud.

Maybe some type of site reward for those out there nailing the counterfeiters. Maybe something like the supporter tag above the user avatar, but something like fraud buster or whatever. A little positive feedback is always nice.

Maybe keep tally of how many listings you guys get pulled down and thereby saved people from themselves. Kind of like McDonalds with the 100 Billion Served or whatever it was under their sign, but keep a running tally of coins yanked down.

Either way, don't want to spend anyone else's money. Just thinking maybe a couple of tweaks like that could provide a little incentive to prevent more fraud.

This will be a very useful tool with everyone labeling the threads with standard terms and all the pictures uploaded to this site so they stay active forever.

In time you will be able to search for a US Coin by date and mint mark and see at least some of the fraud that has been out there.

I'm not one of the fraud finders. I'm more a potential fraud victim that just appreciates the work.

To me this project is interesting as a consumer of its work. If I was looking to buy a 1931 S wheatie, I would like to have seen that awful one from earlier in the week.

When I design processes I try to look at it from the point of view of every class of stakeholder.

In this process, most of us are stakeholders in that we will be able to research fake coins easier. We are interested in being able to find fake coins and read about them and see them. Bobby seems to have all my concerns taken care of there with the common thread naming and the pictures on CCF rule.

Some people like ChildOfTheWheat are stakeholders in that this is a repository of their work. I don't really understand what these type of stakeholders would want honestly with me being just the potential fraud victim in this whole thing. I guess ease of use, but again we have the new tool to snag the ebay pictures that may not be easily available and it is all hosted here so I think this is taken care of too. Maybe these fraud detectives have certain searches or tools they use on ebay they could share with each other to make them all stronger? Maybe they could coordinate themselves so as to not overlap work as much and prevent even more fraud? I really wouldn't know not being one. Just rambling on really.

The third stakeholder is the site management and programmers. They have to do all the work and pay for it. Private property is the most fundamental right in my book, decorate your house however you like. We obviously like it the way you have it or we wouldn't be here. I imagine they'd just be happy if we obeyed the rules and implemented their vision. Upload the pics to the site so the thread is useful for as long as CCF lives on. Use the proper nomenclature for the thread title so a moderator doesn't have to fix it for you. I'm sure they have other issues, but again, just rambling, and again, seems pretty well thought out.

Anyway, from a guy who can critique anything to the nth degree, this seems well planned out and with some submissions from the community, it could be a great tool for numismatics in general.

Thanks for everything.

BuckeyeCoinGuy I applaud your enthusiam and I too would like to recognize those who have helped in this matter.

However.....it wouldn't be fair to make those contributions to this site more noteworthy than say...coop's photos and explanations on error coins, or John1's expertise with cents, and I could go on and on and on ....

Just thank the posters that are giving up their time to help elevate the hobby day after day.

And, of course, a big thank you to Mom and Dad.

Thanks bobby . I appreciate what you're trying to accomplish. I hope this system makes what you do easier, and not antagonize someone who already has an awful lot on his plate. It sounds well-thought and, hopefully, will work nicely for all of us, and dramatically negatively for the frauds. Jack
