Started wading through the remaining coins of my latest lot. This one looked particularly promising, but I haven't been able to find anything after a couple of days of searching.

Obverse:

Radiate bust, reminds me of some depictions of Helios that I have seen.

Edited-Seleucid-Ae12---Antiochus-IV-Epiphanes

Reverse:

Figure standing with Greek on either side. Can't make anything out clearly.

Edited-Seleucid-Ae12---Antiochus-IV-Epiphanes

12mm
1.90g

Any ideas or a nudge in the right direction?

Pictures with a little more detail would help out, especially with the reverse. I can't make any definite conclusions but my guess is that this is a coin from the Seleukid Kingdom. Unfortunately I can't make a guess any more specific than that right now, but hopefully somebody with more information will come along soon.

Bob L will know (he indubitably does!) but I would say with the bottle-top edging there can't be too many coins that fit the bill.

I wait with interest to see what it could be...

Good call Arael!

Seleucid kingdom
Antiochus IV Epiphanes
174-165 BC

Obverse: Antiochus radiate bust
Reverse: Apollo standing, holding bow, legend BASILEWS ANTIOXOU

Interesting side note, this is the very same Antiochus against whom the Jews rebelled, leading to the victory now celebrated as Hanukkah.

You have been getting some very interesting coins in your uncleaned lots. This coin does appear to be Antiochus IV. Nice find.

Thanks! I am still a bit confused by this seller. I understand the idea of loss leading to establish his business, but these lots were insane--I won 2 lots of 20 coins for an average of 90 cents per coin. He had a good 8-12 similar lots, and I really regret not bidding higher to win more--at least one more had a decent Alexander the Great bronze, and almost every one had at least one widow's mite.

I struggle to imagine how he did not lose hundreds of dollars by selling these lots--he had too many to be a clueless inheritor, and had plenty of individual, fully attributed coins as well.

Not that I am complaining
