40% silver. The last year of 90 percent was 1964. Although in more recent times there have been silver proofs. From 1965 to some of 1970 was 40%. The 40% 1970's were released in mint sets.

It might be from Denver or Philly. From 1965 until 1968, the mints didn't put mint marks on their coins. So we don't know if this is from D or P,

Denver or San Francisco and possibly not one of those. Although they didn't have any mintmarks, if I remember correctly Philadelphia never made any of the 40% silver halves. They were all made in denver and San Francisco. (I'll double check that later, I'm at work ad my references are not available.)

1965,66,& 67 were minted only in Phily . 1968, 69,& 70 were minted in Denver and San Francisco. All of these dates are 40% silver.
1968-S ,69-S,& 70-S are proof only issues.

I don't believe this is correct.

I think Conder101 is correct, but with out digging in
and doing research, it is hard to remember which mint made
which coins.

I do remember, because 1964 dated coins were the last for
90% silver coins, people started pulling the silver coins
out of circulation. The government open the San Francisco
mint to help with needed production of the new clad coins.

no mint marks were used for any of the mints for 1965 thru
1967. So there is no way to tell which mint made any of the
coins. As Conder101 posted some mints may not have made certain
denominations for some years. So we might be able to tell
which mint did not make certain denominations.

But the lack of mint marks, for the years 1965 through 1967,
does not mean they were made at Philadelphia.

Even if the silver coins are dated 1964, it does not mean
they were minted in 1964. There was a problem getting the
new clad stock, so 1964 dated 90% silver coins were minted
well into 1966.

GR58 , You might be right. I didn't dig hard enough. So much for assuming.

OK checked the references, 1965 and 66 halves were struck in both Denver and San Francisco (But only small amounts of each in San Francisco, 470,000 in 1965 and 284,000 in 1966.) ALL of the 1967 halves were struck in Denver. And I was right Philadelphia never struck a 40% silver half dollar in ANY year.
