The texture is odd and there's thickening to the letters and a rippled pattern going out like a drop of water hitting a still pool from the Monticello outward.

The coin was struck with very worn dies and I imagine that there is also circulation damage adding to what you see.

You can see the wrinkles in the field, so that tells me it is a VLDS coin struck from a very senior die.
