Perhaps the color has persisted, because it is pigment (inorganic) or dye (organic) based. Lipstick, thinned paint or ink could be liable candidates. If it is dye, it could be bleached out, but that would cause further permanent problems. Don't clean banknotes! Report this Post to the Staff
