Hey all, I just started collecting pre33 gold coins. I recently purchased a $20 liberty from a LCS in "AU" condition. However I'm noticing some rim dents and a ding. Would this coin be rejected by PCGS or NGC? Did I get squirreled?

Possibly, but why would you ever submit this sort of bullion coin to TPG in the first place?

Keep your fingers off the surfaces of the coin!

AU-55 but might get a details grade from a TPG due to the rim issues.
Rest in Peace

To CCF , you bought a raw gold coin in AU condition. you can't blame anyone but yourself if you didn't notice the rim dents. most all LCS will let you return a coin for refund or credit. but only if you don't remove it from the dealers holder. you not only removed it but your touching the coin with your fingers . BIG NO NO .
Hey we learn by our mistakes.

I guess it all depends on what you paid. With those rim dings I doubt that it would get into a problem free slab at any of the big 3 TPGs. Melt for these coins is currently $1038. Hopefully you didn't pay much more than 5-10% more than that.

The rim hits might result in a details grade but since this date is valued almost entirely on it's gold content in circulated condition it doesn't matter that much (value wise). Your coin is worth about $1100 retail today. Wholesale value (what a dealer would pay) is no more than it's current $1,035 melt value.
