I have a friend who is looking to get rid of a rather large collection.. There are roughly 30 or so Au later date Mercury dimes.. What would be a far price per dime? Most are Au from 1934-45 and a few in the BU range
Thank you all!
Rest in Peace

Just off the top of my head : $4-5 for common dates. and up to $20 for better dates and mints.
just tell him to buy a Coins Magazine or check e-bay for prices.

Check Numismedia for the price ranges. En tire half set of all AU 34-45 w/ all mm's including a micro "s" but not including any 42/1 over-dates will be approx. a $300 - $400 set.

There is a guy on ebay who sells a few a month in a capital plastics holder using the same standard photo pic which leads me to believe he has mostly high AU/Low BU, no micro "s" and he seems to get about $450 on avg. auction. Here are his, you'll notice he uses the same pics each time. I would have to think they're an avg. grade of AU58 to MS62:

ebay item number:361428363210 - sold $433

ebay item number:201464448381 - sold $408

ebay item number:201470040513 - current bid $365

If they were all CH BU, so figure an avg. grade of MS64/65 with a few MS66 in there, you would fare in the $600 range for a complete half set like this. The challenge is in the time it takes to put one of these together properly.

Even if they are higher grade near uncirculated, if they are common dates they would likely get snapped up at a local coin show in the $5-$7 range (if they haven't been cleaned).

A LOT of collectors can spot a cleaned or dipped coin pretty quick and most of them run away from them unless the price is just plain cheap.

34-36 S and D mint mark dates are around $5-8 or little more, 34 - 36 P, 37 - 45 in AU can cost $3-5 depending on quality. A lot has been cleaned or dipped, so watch out for original luster. The lots I bought on ebay comes mixed surfaces, but I been buying less lately.
