I picked up some 1909 Barber halves thinking there wasn't much of a numismatic value to them. They are in G shape and apparently sell between 18-24 dollars. I certainly didn't pay that much but I'm simply confused as to why this dealer would've let me have these for the price he did.

I would have to assume they are pretty scarce, I'll just keep them and let them appreciate. I bought these as junk silver and the thread below about the Barber Half got me looking into the ones I just bought. Strange.

They could be details coins, such as cleaned, scratched, environmentally damaged, etc.

Also, are you looking at the RedBook? Those prices *are* inflated, and also I'm not 100% sure your coins are G-4 without pics.
Rest in Peace

As requested pictures would help us give you an idea as to value and usual selling price range. There are a lot of 'slick' below good grade Barber halves that really are not worth too much above silver. Although I'd certainly rather have Barber rather than Walking Liberty or Franklin common date halves, too.
