I believe this is a 50 pul Muhammed Zahir Shah coin, but am unsure if there is a date? The holder just says Afghanistan 496. Any help appreciated.

I spent some of these as pocket change when I visited Afghanistan way back in 1970.
I assume that since it was in common circulation when I visited, the real claim to value for this particular example would be due to it's exceptional condition.

The date is directly below the mosque: "1332" in Persio-Arabic numerals. This date is using the Solar Hejira calendar used in Iran and Afghanistan; to convert SH dates to AD dates, simply add 621. So this coin dates from AD 1953.

By "496" I assume you mean "946"; KM 946 is the catalogue number for this coin type in the Krause world coin catalogues. Unfortunately, the NGC page for this coin doesn't have pictures.

The image isn't too clear, so wasn't sure if the last digit in the date is a 2 or a 4, but I was leaning towards a 4, which would make it 1955.
