I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a mint schedule. Ie it's 2008 and no 2008 coins in circulation yet? I was thinking that for the new State Quarters or the New Presidential dollars and other coinage, it would be good to get to banks right away to get the best quality coins available in circulation?

Or do they keep this secret?

Yes, I knew about that. I was wondering about "normal" or "for circulation-general consumer use" as opposed to collector issues.

I guess nobody knows.

There is no "set schedule" per say for business strikes. It all depends on when a particular bank orders new coinage from the Fed. Some banks just recycle older coinage through armored car carriers and never order new coins. Your best bet for getting them right now would be from a commercial bank, i.e. a bank that primarily serves businesses. I guarantee that 2008 coins are currently circulating, but the numbers are bound to be quite low and only close to a Fed bank. However, the first 2008 quarter(Oklahoma) will not be released until Jan 28 and the first 2008 Pres dollars will not be issued until late Feb so those are not available anywhere yet. I live less than 10 miles from the St. Louis Fed and I usually see new year cents turn up between the third week of Jan- third week of Feb. I do not make a point to obtain them from a commercial bank, just general circulation.
