Royal Canadian Mint - In defense of Canada: Patrol Against U-boats! Final coin in the Canadian Home Front four-coin series.

During the Second World War, Canada played an important role in protecting convoys from the U-boat threat that lurked in the Atlantic; but in 1942, the U-boat intrusion into Canadian waters suddenly transformed them into an additional theater of war. This fine silver coin commemorates Canada's coastal and convoy defenses during the Battle of the Gulf of St. Lawrence, which brought the war to the home front and within sight of our shores.

Its a nice design! I might grab this one for my soon to be two year old son who does not quite know yet that he collects coins.

Hmm.. Personally I think something is missing from the design. Would probably look a lot nicer with some gold guilding.

A gold guilded WW2 U-boat? Somehow I don't think that'd be very appropriate.

Or even a patrol boat.

One thing I hadn't realized about this series is the first two coins feature the effigy of King George V and the last two, King George VI.

The only critique I will offer is that the "C" in Canada and the 6 are difficult to see due to the layout. It seems hurried to me.

It's about the "Patrol Against U-boats," not U-boats.
