... How critical is it to have the color, finish, etc., of a coin accurately reproduced and under what light, should the color or toning of a coin be judged.

If the photo is not to be used to represent the coin in a sale, can the coin be "cleaned up" in LR ... ? Cleaned up being some enhancements in the photo ... color, saturation, contrast, bringing out a texture or depth in the coin, not a Photo Shop job, just a bit of LR.

... Yes, some coins should be exactly what they are, because they are what they are, ... but the others ... ?

The coin was designed to be attractive, should make for some interesting photography ... and discussion

The answer to your question is simply this... If the coin isn't going to be sold and the pictures are for yourself only, do with them what you want. Whatever makes you happy is all that matters in this case.

I think its considered false advertising if you sell a coin using photoshopped pictures or pictures not of your coin?

The photos I'm most likely shoot will be coins I buy because I like the coin and I plan to keep it, both for future subject matter and to just look at when I want ... The photos may be reproduced on canvas, glass, wood, or other interesting to me media. Maybe on a wall with appropriate lighting.

There is nothing wrong with Photoshopping a coin image to make it look more like the coin in hand.
