I don't understand the popularity of this coin. A recent auction 381472242707 finished for $123 and $12 ship. The reason I ask, this coin from images I've seen is very pixelated and yet this coin sells well. I don't understand the appeal at the high prices, when other coins sell low.
Rest in Peace

I'm not sure if it applies, but my father always had a poster above his desk.... "Unless you're the lead dog..... the scene never changes"

Could be another one of those mintage to demand, maybe 10 sold or something like that.

I am not sure for 100%, but looks like this is the RCM's first "full picture" coloured coin. On which colorized not only some element (like Special edition 2001-2007 SMLs) , but all the picture.

Correct me, please, if I wrong.

It presents well, is a well balanced design and is simply a beautiful coin, especially if you like dogs. It was also very innovative in 2006.

Issue was $90 plus tax, 10 years ago so $100 today isn't exactly tearing it up. Many dealers and ebay listing are asking closer to $175-200.

The other two $30 coins from 2006, the War Memorial and Beaumont Hamel also held their value for the most part over the years. Could be a function of the limited number of coins produced annually even just 10 years.

Actual mintage of the dog sled was only 7384 of 15000 proposed so it did not sell very well back then yet it still was reasonably plentiful at least by today's standards.
Rest in Peace

I just find it an oddity that with coin prices falling below issue a pixelated coin is maintaining issue or better. The design and subject are desirable, its the pixilation that bothers me, its very obvious! It seems collectors are not bothered by image quality. It appears many coins prior to 2012 are holding near issue prices. Its the recent years that prices are falling like an avalanche. I wonder if this coin will ever hit $60. Just demonstrates a great image is needed to maintain price, no mater if its sterling silver. I appreciate the insights!

Would this be an example of pad printing. It looks like there's some engraving on the coin. Great image Yingyang
