Hello, I have never collected these large cents before but this one caught my eye today while working out a trade. Any thoughts on the Newcomb number or grade are appreciated. Thanks.
looks like an N-3 to me because of date position and the lines between t and y in liberty going downward. Grellmans book has this # as an R-4 rarity. Vf35 or xf40 sharpness but the color makes it look like its been cleaned to me.
N-3, 11, and 12 all have the same obv. Your coin shows the large dull point down from the left base of the N in ONE seen on N-12. There should be a small pint below left of center if the serif of the E in CENT (you don't show that area) and it is always supposed to have a crack through the tops of UNITED. The reverse was also used on N-15 both before and after the crack developed. The obv date position doesn't match N-15 so I would say it is N-12.
