Hi any opinions and/or help would be appreciated! I have found this 1869 Half penny on sale for around $30 US but in my opinion it has been heavily cleaned.? Any thoughts? Also I see that in VF it is valued around $135 VF- Any thoughts on if this example would be a good buy at $30 US and if it is worth grading?

These are the only photos available and I am not able to view the coin in person before purchasing.

No I doubt it's fake. It has definitely been cleaned though, I would avoid it.

You can see there is no detail present on the fingertips on the trident, also the detail on the crown is gone, yet it looks like there is lustre? Impossible without being cleaned.

Lots of edge knocks, and what looks like a weak strike to 11 o'clock, there's a reason that it's $30 and no-one has snapped it up yet..

g,day
it seems that the coin has been through the olive oil soak treatment but one can see that with the rim damage and other marks it was once a well circulated coin, my opinion only

Chilecollector. g,day
my opinion only is to keep the coin in its date order if you are collecting only but if it is for investment purposes then its a whole new story, if you are just collecting then you will come across duplications all the time like me you will end up with pages and pages of duplication and a lot of cross matching to improve the grades.
Kind Regards Al
