Brand new to the forum and not a collector. Any suggestions on the best route to go selling this. It can't be graded, has a 14k gold bezel soldered around the edge. It's in fairly decent condition, but was obviously worn as jewelry at some point. The value of this coin when not in jewelry has really skyrocketed over the last few years. I haven't seen one as a pendant though so it's difficult to gauge how much it's worth over the bullion value. Do I grab an offer over bullion value? List it on ebay or sell it at auction? Any concrete suggestions would be appreciated. I have been unable to locate another one as a pendant and my inclination is to auction it as it's strange to have this lady in the clouds as a pendant.

Frankly speaking if the coin has been modified in some way, (by collectors) the coin is considered damaged and thus doesn't get a collector's value. Considering it's worn too I don't think collectors would really want it. If you want money now then you could go to a coin/pawn shop and sell it for close to bullion value (they see it as a damaged coin and value it as such, and these guys never pay full price, not even bullion). Better selling option than the straight-forward "WE BUY GOLD"-shops that buy at very low prices. ebay could be an option, it's an online marketplace filled with buyers and some might even want this so badly that they don't care too much about the obvious damages and wear (believe me, this has happened, multiple times). Some people simply want the scrap gold. ebay is an element of surprise sometimes so I can't speak fully for it, but they do take a cut of the selling price. Remember to put a resonable starting price though if you choose to do this, ebay bargains are very sought after.

Thanks for the response. I got one offer that was substantially over the bullion value from a very reputable dealer. He suggested the auction route as well since this coin has really skyrocketed over the last two years. All of the other dealers I've spoken with have said they're not interested beyond the bullion value because of the bezel and non perfect condition of the coin. My first and probably last ever venture into the Coin World showed me the bezel is usually the kiss of death for value over bullion. I may gauge interest on ebay and go back where I got the offer if there's no real interest.

Do you have an estimate of what you think it's worth? If so, then consider that reputable dealer's offer. If you take that, then you don't have to worry about all things ebay - shipping, ebay's cut, fraud and insecurity. And lastly- - you get the cash immediately. No uncertain waiting whether the item will sell or not on ebay.
