Hello. I am new to the forum. I purchased this Chile 20C recently and didnt realize the doubling at the time I bid on it. Once it arrived I realized it has doubling on the Obverse and Reverse. Would this type of error bring any kind of premium? Thanks for the help!

On a US or Canadian coin this would get you a nice premium, although because very few people collect Chilean variety coins (and because I suspect due to the amount of errors I see posted on other forums, South American errors are generally more common than US errors). I don't know what the premium should be but that "N" has some very bold doubling so I think it should get atleast 20%. For exact percentage I'd defer to the age-old saying "Only time will tell".

My opinion is that if properly advertised this coin would definitely bring a premium. It is not uncommon to see Chilean coins from the 19th century sell for over their book value on ebay and the collector's market in Chile sees a very nice premium over book value for just about anything older that is in decent condition. Sorry for the late reply, new here!

I agree with Chilecollector that there is growing interest for chilean coinage, both 19th century republican issues, and also for spanish colonial coins minted at the Santiago mint. So it is possibly that for this particular variety a premium may be obtained.
I have been collecting chilean coins for over 25 years now, and it has been my experience that collector interest has steadily increased over the years (so have the prices by the way!). However, the field of die varieties and errors in chilean coinage is still pretty much undeveloped, and many die varieties in early chilean coinage still unexplored from what I have seen. The volcano coinage 1817-1834 is a good example where die varieties exists, but go unnoticed by collectors.
