I have a coin which is apparently an 1833 quarter anna, it has a pair of lions on either side of a shield with 1833 written under it on one side an on the other it has the 'scales of justice,' it says quarter anna and has what appears to be arabic writing on the bottom. It is the same size as a 2p piece but slightly thinner. It is in fairly good condition but is dirty as you would expect, I heard that cleaning it could be a bad idea? Has anyone any idea if it is worth anything and, if so, where would I sell such a coin in order to get what it's worth?

Hello and welcome to the forum. Your coin is a quarter anna from the Bombay presidency in British India. There are a few varieties of this coin which affect it's value. Also, the condition matters a great deal. Your coin could be worth anywhere from $.75 to $150.00.

Please post a picture if possible. That always helps in determining condition.
